McHugh, Sean Og: Conor McGregor needs to start making headlines for the right reasons

Mark McHugh and Sean Og O’ hAilpin believe that MMA star Conor McGregor needs to start making the right headlines again.

McGregor has been in the media of late but it hasn’t been good publicity for the Dubliner. On this week’s Super 8s Podcast O’ hAilpin admitted to being a fan of the sports star when he’s competing at his sport:

“I’d be a fan as a sports person but when he gets out of the octagon, some of the stuff leaves a lot to be desired.”

He went on to praise McGregor, the sportsperson:

“There are two personalities here. It’s just unfortunate the stuff that he does outside the ring/octagon leaves a lot to be desired. Conor McGregor in the ring and the preparation, training and dedication to his sport, is second to none.”

The former Cork hurler wants the Dub to make headlines for doing something good, not bad:

“His highlights should be what he does in the ring. His highlights seem to be more about what’s he doing outside the ring and a lot of it is not great stuff.”

McHugh agreed with what O’ hAilpin said. He highlighted the good McGregor has done for his sport:

“What he has done for the sport in general…he has been an Ambassador for Ireland over the last number of years. He carried himself well. You have to admit he’s only a young man, still learning. We all make mistakes.”

The Donegal man admitted that although McGregor has done a lot of good, he has also committed errors:

“What he has done for the sport in the octagon is great but he lets himself down a wee bit now from time to time.”
