It’s a real family affair for the Sheridan’s at the Paidi O’Se Tournament

For most GAA clubs it really is a family affair with brothers/sisters, cousins all togging out for the same team. Mullahoran Ladies are no different but maybe a little special. The club from South Cavan played in the Paidi O’Se Tournament at the weekend with four sisters togging out alongside their mother, her nieces and the girls’ cousins.

The ‘Sheridan’ name is synonyms with football in Mullahoran but in recent years it’s the ladies who have made a name for themselves. You have mother Monica and her four daughters Geraldine, Louise, Mona and Aishling.

Monica’s husband Gerry played for both Mullahoran and Cavan, and managed the Cavan Ladies. He managed Cavan Ladies to their first ever Intermediate title back in 2013 and is a well-known referee; he reffed the All-Ireland Masters Final last year. His father John was a famed Cavan footballer. So football well and truly runs in the Sheridan family.

Mullahoran got to the Ladies Senior Final in Ventry on Saturday but were beaten by Dublin side Ballyboden in the decider. They did however claim the Player of the Tournament Award with DCU student Aishling coming away with that, ahead of her sister Mona.

The talented Sheridans have helped their club claim the Intermediate title in Cavan back in 2014 and they were beaten in the Senior final last year by a strong Lurgan side.

Aishling, Mona and Geraldine are part of the the Cavan Ladies team who are currently unbeaten in Division 2 of the Lidl Ladies National League and are second in the table. There’s no doubt we’ll be hearing lots more about these Mullahoran sisters.
