Dublin 2-28 Laois 1-15
Two goals from Eamonn Dillion helped Dublin to a 16 point victory over Eamonn Kelly’s Laois at Parnell Park on Saturday evening. However, it was Laois that made a superb start to the game as Paddy Purcell had them ahead 0-05 to 0-02 after 6 minutes of play. Indeed, the impressive Purcell landed all of those points in what was a great start to the game for the Laois men. Laois to be fair had the aid of a wind in the first half and they didn’t push on as Dublin came more into the tie. Dublin were level with David Treacy accurate from placed balls and Ben Quinn firing over some nice scores. David Treacy continued his accuracy from placed balls as Dublin were taking control of proceedings with the half coming to a close. However, Laois with Mark Kavanagh and Enda Rowland registering scores were still in the game and only a point behind at the break.
On the resumption both sides traded points before Dillion grabbed his and Dublin’s first goal on 41 minutes. He fetched a high ball on the 13 yard line before turning the defender and finishing past Enda Rowland. The goal was the turning point and from then on Dublin up the intensity and they lead by 9 points with 55 minutes played with Dillion coming to fore once more hitting three from play. It was game set and match on 66 minutes as Dillion blasted home his second goal. Just as the game was nearing its conclusion Laois had Cahir Healy sent off on a straight red. Enda Rowland did a grab Laois goal in injury time from a free to put some respectability on the score, but its Dublin who progress to a meeting with Tipperary on Saturday evening in Thurles.
