Armagh’s season has ended on a high as they are the new 2020 Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Junior camogie champions. The 00-19 to 03-07 triumph over a resilient Cavan in the Final at Kingspan Breffni on Saturday was a very welcome ray of light on what has been a very difficult year.
Victorious manager, Michael Murphy revealed it was a great game of camogie from start to finish and was very cautious of a number of Cavan players given the threat and caliber they have in their squad.
“It was a great game; we knew coming into the match that Cavan were going to really put it up to us and were very fearful of five or six of their players and they really put on a good performance”.
In a year where covid has dominated the headlines for the last year and the challenges that it presented us Murphy also stated that some of his players had lost family members due to Covid 19.
This win for Armagh has even more value than redemption, after the bitter memories of the loss in the 2016 decider.
The emotions after the game were evident after referee Mike Ryan signaled the conclusion close to 70 minutes of pulsating action.
They were many impressive performances throughout the game, stand-out player and the key to Armagh’s victory was Ciara Donnelly with a personal tally of thirteen points with seven coming from play.
