Another crisis for Leitrim Ladies as they withdraw from Championship

As we get ready for a brilliant weekend of Ladies Football with the upcoming league finals, it’s sad to report Leitrim will be taking no part in this years games.

Following on from their disastrous league campaign it has been announced that Leitrim Ladies will not take part in the Championship this year.

The Leitrim County Board got a dispensation from the Ladies Gaelic Football Association not to field a team in the adult inter-county championship in 2018. Due to this no Leitrim Club teams can take part in the Club Championship this year.

Leitrim got to the Connacht Intermediate Final last year but were beaten by Sligo. They reached the All-Ireland Quarter-Final but were defeated by Tyrone who went on to reach the final.

This year Leitrim played just two Division 3 games. After conceding to Kildare and Wexford they got a team together for games against Offaly and Meath but were heavily defeated in both games. They ended up conceding their last two games against neighbours Roscommon and Longford. They will ply their trade in Division 4 next year.

Due to Leitrim’s withdrawal there are now just two teams in the Connacht Intermediate Championship and Roscommon will now play Sligo in the final.
