Last year a record attendance of 46,286 showed up at Croke Park to watch the three TG4 Ladies All-Ireland Football Finals. That attendance broke the previous year’s numbers by nearly 12,000. Can Sunday’s finals reach the same numbers or even break them?
President of the LGFA Marie Hickey told Declan Rooney of Media West that ticket sales had been going well for Sunday: “It would be just wonderful if we can even get close to that (attendance) again this year,” she said.
“Certainly we are hoping. Ticket sales are good but it is very hard to pinpoint where you are with them, or where you are going to be for Sunday.
“Most counties are responding very well and we have a lot of clubs coming from counties that aren’t even participating and coming in large numbers. That’s great to see.
After heartbreak in their three previous finals Dublin finally got their hands on the Brendan Martin Cup last year with victory over Mayo in the Senior Final. Will they retain the trophy on Sunday or will Cork claim the title for a record breaking 12th time. Cork have defeated Dublin everytime they meet in a final. Their last win was 2016 when they had one point to spare over the Dubs.
This year’s Intermediate Final sees Meath take on Tyrone. Both these sides have never won the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup. Tyrone lost out to Tipperary by three points last year so will be aiming to go one better this year but standing in their way is a very good Meath team who like Tyrone would love to make a return to Senior Championship football.
Louth and Limerick clash in the Junior Final. Both sides were relegated from the Intermediate Championship last year so will be hoping to make a swift return back. Fermanagh claimed the title last year after a replay
