Dolan credits new manager for Meath’s fine start

After being relegated from Division 1 last year the aim for Meath camogie this year is to gain promotion back to the top division. They are currently unbeaten in their group in Division 2 and things are going well according to captain Jane Dolan.

Jane was speaking on this week’s Sportsgirls Podcast where she praised her team-mates and new manager Ray Gavin: “Last year was a tough slog. This year, Ray (Gavin) coming in, it has been brilliant. It has been a new lease of life, we needed it. In fairness, all the girls have come back. They’ve all given as much as they could and so far so good.”

The full-forward who is out injured at the moment is happy with the way things have been going for Meath: “We’ve had a good record. The girls pulled out another win against Carlow. We are there or thereabouts. Hopefully we can go all the way now.”

Speaking about her new manager Ray Gavin, Jane said: “He is a really, really lovely guy. He has been really honest and upfront with everybody who he has been dealing with in the camp. Personally I think he’s a really lovely guy. He has done everything that he said that he would. He has been really inviting and open to everybody and I think that’s a good thing when you are coming into a set-up.”

The Westmeath man has definitely made an impression in the Royal County: “Everybody has taken to him and get on with him. It’s impossible not to get on with him, in fairness to him. That’s half the battle. I don’t think there is a reason why no one would get on with him,” said Dolan.
