Mourneabbey end over 5 years of hurt to claim All Ireland Title

Mourneabbey’s road to redemption after last years defeat to Carnacon is complete tonight as they comfortably beat Foxrock Cabinteely on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-07. Lead by star forward Doreen O’Sullivan the Cork side rocketed out of the blocks, building up a lead of 5 points with 20 minutes gone.

Foxrock – Cabinteely huffed and puffed in the early stages but their handling and hand passing game let them down as they struggled to play against a nasty breeze. Mourneabbey captilised on a short kick out from Foxrock Cabinteely to extend their lead to 1-12 to 0-03 points and it looked like game over.

Fiona Claffey responded instantly with a super goal to leave the half time score line of 1-12 to 1-03

The feeling around us was that if the Dublin side could steady themselves and use the wind advantage in the second half we were in for a cracker.

Sadly that didn’t come in the second half even though lead by an opening score from All Star Sinead Goldrick, you felt Mourneabbey always had their measure. Mourneabbey rattled the bar twice within a couple of minutes and then went on to blast a dubious penalty wide.

Hannah O’Neil was starved of possession inside and Mourneabbey while not scoring didn’t look like conceding either and when they got their only score of the second half it was effectively game over.

Foxrock Cabineteely did covert 3 frees to put a little gloss on the scoreboard, as the Cork Ladies ended their hunt for the Dolores Tyrrell Memorial Cup.

Congratulations to Mourneabbey!
