Carlow 00-03 (03) Cork 00-07 (07)

Defending league and All-Ireland champions Cork have gotten their league campaign off to a winning start after they edged out Carlow in a very low scoring affair in Netwatch Cullen Park.

Both teams never really hit top form over the course of sixty minutes, with the opening score of the game coming from the stick of Eibhe Lawler after eight minutes. Carlow’s second point came from an Elanor Treacy free, while we had to wait until the twenty second minute for Cork to register their first point on the board with a well worked point coming from Kate O’ Keeffe. The strong swirling wind played a factor in the game and by the half time whistle Cork lead by 0-2 to 0-3.

Cork came out of the traps at a hundred miles an hour with Katie Wall first onto the breaking ball slotted the ball over the bar, further points from Kate O’ Keeffe, Caoimhe Harney and Kate Dooley extended the champions lead out to five points, Carlow’s only score came from an Elanor Treacy free in the fifty-eight minute.  Overall not a very exciting game of Camogie, but its still early days with room to improve, but its Cork who are heading home to Leeside with two points in the bag.
