Cheltenham Preview – Day 3

Sportstalk got the views of some of the top names in horse racing ahead of the Cheltenham Festival. Emmet Kennedy from The Final Furlong Podcast and Talksport, Johnny Ward – broadcaster and journalist, Katie Young who works at Gordon Elliott’s yard, Brian Gavin – racing pundit, Mikey Fogarty – jockey and Aaron McCarthy from Betdaq.

Day 3 – Wednesday 17th March

Golden Miller Novices’ Chase – 1.30pm

Johnny – “Bob Olinger. I find this very tough. I think it’s going to be a two horse race. Some race if the two of them turn up (Galopin Des Champs and Bob Olinger)

Mikey – “Bob Olinger for me. He is some machine.”

Brian – “You’d have to say L’Homme Presse is some jumper. Again it’ll turn out to be a five or six horse race, seven at the most. Bob Olinger is a touch of class. L’Homme Presse is the unknown in it.”

Aaron – “L’Homme Presse still comes in here with a shout. It’s a cracking race.”

Emmet – “No horse is a certainty but I’m confident Galopin Des Champs will beat Bob Olinger

Katie – “L’Homme Presse for me. I quite like him. He has been very impressive. Bob Olinger is spectacular but I do worry about his jumping.”

Festival Trophy Chase – 2.50pm

Emmet – “I’m not a big fan of backing odds on favourites but Allaho is stone cold, solid, to win this race. There is nothing wrong with this horse.”

Johnny – “Four of the top five in the betting won’t run.”

Katie – “Allaho is a penalty kick in this. He is an absolute certainty.”

Mikey – “I rode him a bit early on in his career (Allaho). He is a certainty. A bit of a farce of a race.”

Brian – “The one horse, if he goes here, that is a bit of value is Janidil. It’s only what will come second. Allaho will win but we’re finding who’ll come second or third.”

Aaron – “This will be another coupon buster.”

Stayers’ Hurdle – 3.30pm

Johnny – “I like Flooring Porter. I think he’ll take an awful lot of beating. Flooring Porter is very solid.”

Emmet – “I don’t think it’s that deep a race. There is only one rock solid horse in the race and that’s Flooring Porter. I’d be fairly confident about him.”

Katie – “For me I think Flooring Porter is the only solid horse in that race. The rest of them you just don’t know what’s going to turn up.”

Brian – “I’m a Flooring Porter fan, all day. I think he’ll take all the beating.”

Mikey – “I wouldn’t write Klassical Dream off. I’d have an each-way bet on Klassical Dream.”

Dawn Run Novices Hurdle – 4.50pm

Johnny – “Brandy Love. I think she’ll take a lot of beating.”

Mikey – “I’d go for Dinoblue.”

Emmet – “Hauturiere.”

Katie – “I quite like Allegorie De Vassy.”
