Down play host to Roscommon on Saturday where they will be looking to make a good start to the Christy Ring Cup. In fact, both of these sides have already met this year, with the meeting coming back in February. The Mourne County won 1-21 to 1-16. Danny Toner, who is the captain of the current side was superb in that win landing 0-11, while Gareth ‘Magic’ Johnston who came out of retirement knocked in 1-01 off the substitute bench. Eoghan Sands and Conor O’Prey have also been in fine form and Down will look to these four players to have big games on Saturday afternoon.
Roscommon will also want a good start to the campaign and a win here would set them up nicely for the rest of the campaign. They have some superb players with Naos Connaghton, Niall Fallon and Jason Kilkenny. The Rossies, managed by Galway man Johnny Kelly will look to these players for big games yet again. Down are priced at 2/9 to win this game, with Roscommon 10/3 outsiders. Down to win with a few points to spare for me. Verdict: Down by 5
