Cork to have too much for Tipp in Camogie semi-final admits Kinane

Ger Kinane feels All-Ireland Champions Cork will have too much for her native county Tipperary when they meet in the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie semi-final in Semple Stadium on Saturday.

Kinane, Sportstalk’s camogie expert, had tipped Cork to retain their All-Ireland title earlier this year and she admits they’ll have a bit to spare on Saturday over Tipp: “Cork are red hot favourites and I’d been tipping Cork to win the All-Ireland this year from the outset. Whether that changes on Saturday after seeing Galway and Kilkenny in the first game. I think Cork are very strong. They played Tipperary twice this year and despite Tipperary giving their best efforts Cork were still 10/15 points better than them.”

Tipp though have bounced back from that defeat and put in good performances on their way to this last four clash. Kinane believes those games will have brought them on: “What have Tipp done to bridge that gap? They’ve beaten Offaly in the dying seconds, they drew with Dublin and they had a good win over Waterford; all that would’ve helped and brought Tipperary on and they’ll be growing in confidence.”

As much as she’d love to see her county defeat Cork, the former Tipp camogie star is realistic about their chances: “I think they’ll find it hard to beat this Cork team. I’d love to see it happening. Sport does throw up shocks and some day this Cork team will be beaten and Tipperary will make the next step and get back to an All-Ireland Final.”

Despite being underdogs for this game Kinane knows Tipperary will give it their best shot on Saturday: “It’s 10 years since Tipperary were in an All-Ireland semi-final. Players are coming through for them. I think Cork are way ahead of everyone; fitness wise, stamina wise. I think Tipperary will give it their best. They have some good pacy forwards that will cause Cork trouble but in the end I think Cork will just have too much experience and the difference in development between this Cork team and where Tipperary are at, at the moment.”

She went on to say: “Cork will pull away in a big stadium like Thurles and will win out winners.”
