Doherty believes Sligo will be quietly confident

Sportstalk pundit Nadine Doherty believes Sligo will be quietly confident ahead of their Division 3 Final with Meath in Clones on Saturday afternoon.

The former Donegal footballer was speaking on this week’s Sportsgirls Podcast. She said: “I’d say Sligo would be quietly confident. They worked their way through that league competition. They’ll be keeping quiet and saying all the right things in the media, but I think they will go in seeing themselves as favourites for that.”

Speaking about Meath who finished the on top of the table with just one league defeat (coming in the final game against Down). Nadine said: “Meath did finish top, Sligo second; they are the top two teams. The corresponding fixture earlier in the year is of no importance. Sligo won’t be looking to that at all. They’ve just steadily improved as it’s gone on.”

Nadine thinks the pressure will be on favourites Meath. They had been tipped to gain promotion and are one of the favourites to claim the All-Ireland Intermediate title: “Meath they’ll be looking at themselves; they are young and will certainly have set out their aims and goals at the start of the year. I’d say they’ll be a bit more nervous than Sligo,” admitted Nadine.

She went on to say: “It’ll be a brilliant match.”
