Hurling Review: Canning stunts Waterford’s growth in cracker!

Galway 2-22 Waterford 2-19

A cracking game in Pearse Stadium in Galway ended in victory for the home side. However, it didn’t seem likely as they were trailing Waterford by 10 points at one stage. Waterford were leading the game by 7 points with 14 minutes to go, but a Galway side inspired by Joe Canning never gave up. The fantastic Canning hit 1-10 for the hosts, while Niall Burke when he introduced was superb. Conor Cooney scored a goal before the break which gave Galway hope at half time when they went in 0-15 to 1-09 behind.

The second half sprung into life with 2 goals from Tom Devine for Waterford, but Galway fought back with a goal by Canning. Canning was later sent off in injury time for a second yellow card, but it was his performance that saw the Tribesmen into the final four where they play Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds.

The best players on the day for Galway were Joe Canning, Niall Burke and Conor Whelan, while for Waterford Devine, Stephen Roche and Maurice Shanahan were superb.

Player of the Match: Joe Canning, Joe hit 1-10 in fine man of the match display as he led his side to a league semi-final. Canning hit 1-06 in total from play.
