International King’s Cup – how it came about

One of the most anticipated amateur golf tournaments for 2022 takes place in Glasson Golf Club this month. The International King’s Cup between Team Ireland and Team USA is on from the 20th to the 24th of June.
It’s a three-day 54-hole amateur match play pairs tournament structured like the Ryder Cup. It was formed in 2016 and is played in honour of golf great Arnold Palmer.
The first three Cups were won by Team Ireland. In 2019 at the prestigious Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Florida, Team USA claimed victory for the very first time. The American retained the cup in Glasson in 2021, it was the first time they’d won on Irish soil.
Team USA were in place last October while Team Ireland were put in place after the National Finals in Glasson at the beginning of May. There had been four qualifiers around the country.
Glasson Golf Club will be staging the qualifiers alongside partners – SportsTalk, Medel Healthcare, Entegro, BagBoy, Irelands Hidden Heartlands and Glenmuir.
Each team member will get to stay at Glasson Lakehouse for the duration of the event (four nights) and each player will be presented with Glenmuir Uniforms for each day of play and each one given bespoke BagBoy Golf Bags.
It is a golfing experience of a lifetime.
