Laois 4-15 Longford 0-16
Laois booked a quarter spot against neighbours Kildare after a good performance against Longford on Sunday last. Peter Creedon’s side were far the better side and were fully deserving of their 11 point win. Laois had the wind in the opening half and they took advantage of this notching up nine points from nine shots in the opening 15 minutes. Donie Kingston at full forward was the main target man and he registered three points, while he also set up scores for his brother Paul, Evan O’Carroll and Niall Donoher.
Longford did play a part though and to be fair to them they did fight back. Robbie Smyth was impressive as he pointed some nice frees and some nice scores from play. However, the tie was soon to turn into Laois’ favour. Paul Kingston grabbing the goal, his brother Donie then netted to put the O’Moore men ahead 2-10 to 0-07 at the break.
Laois fired another two goals in the second half past Paddy Collum in the Longford goal, with the goals coming from Paul Kingston and Alan Farrell. Robbie Smyth continued his fine score taking for Longford and he finished with 0-11 to his name at full time. However, it was Laois who finished strong, with Colm Begley, Darren Strong and John O’Loughlin all rounding off a fine win.
