There are changes in personnel in the Longford camp as they look forward to the start of their Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 3 campaign.
Former Westmeath ladies minor manager Enda Sheridan has taken over at the helm while Emer Heaney has been named captain with Michelle Farrell and Aoife Darcy her vice-captains.
After winning the Division 4 title back in 2017 to gain promotion to Division 3, Longford found the going tough last year but were able to maintain their Division 3 status and also their Intermediate Championship status courtesy of a relegation play-off win against Fermanagh.
With a new manager in charge there is now a feel-good factor in the Longford camp. Heaney was full of praise for Sheridan when Sportstalk caught up with her on Tuesday at the launch of the leagues. She said: “We are hoping he brings us further this year. He is very good. Training is definitely a step-up, it’s tough but it’s what you need at this level.”
Heaney is hoping that Longford can do well in a very competitive Division 3: “Last year was a tough year for us. We have new talent in and girls are coming back, we’ve a really strong team this year. We are building and looking to improve on last year. Set our sights on each game and take each game as it comes. Hopefully progress well in Division 3.”
