Dublin manager Mick Bohan was beaming after his side delivered a strong performance to deliver their first ever Lidl Ladies Football Division 1 League title at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to SportsTalk, Bohan, who also guided Dublin to All-Ireland Senior Championship honours last September, was thrilled for his players, who led from start to finish against Mayo.
“We are delighted, delighted for some of the old warriors like Sinead (Aherne) here, her first league title,” he said.
“What a servant she has been to Dublin!
“I suppose the closer we came to the finish line in the National League, the more important it became for us just to put this one away at to have it said that we have created our own bit of history, so we are just delighted for the group.”
Dublin brought a huge Championship intensity to this encounter, and really displayed major workrate over the 60 minutes.
“The game, it’s amazing the way it can slip and flow, because they were in for two good goal chances – one great block and all of a sudden the game swings,” Bohan said.
“Sinead (Aherne) last year in the All-Ireland Final missed a penalty, and the game stayed in the balance for a lot longer.
“I thought that was a crucial score today, but her movement upfront was just outstanding.”
Bohan had also strong words of praise for Ciara Trant, who put in a huge shift between the posts.
“A superb goalkeeper and she played with an injury today,” he said.
“She picked up a bit of an injury against Galway two weeks ago, and it came at her again on Friday night.
“The strength and character of some of those girls is just really coming to the fore.”
