Aberdeen winger Niall McGinn revealed on this week’s Sports Talk that Seamus Coleman was over at Celtic in late 2008 but amazingly the Glasgow club didn’t sign the Donegal defender.
McGinn was over having his medical at Celtic when he spotted Coleman in the canteen: “I remember when I went into Celtic. I was doing sort of a medical, I walked into the canteen and there Seamus Coleman was, sitting in the canteen. He was on trial at Celtic and to think that Celtic never signed Seamus Coleman then was obviously crazy.”
Celtic’s loss was Everton’s gain and just weeks later he signed for the Merseyside club. McGinn said: “They are all sort of good stories. They end up signing for 50 odd grand from Sligo Rovers or 75 grand, I don’t know the exact figure. For him to go on and have the career he has is just crazy.”
