Westmeath v Offaly, 7pm, Saturday, TEG Cusack Park, Mullingar
We all know what happened when these sides met last year with Westmeath hammering the Faithful 2-22 to 1-11 so Offaly will be looking for revenge on Saturday evening. Offaly had a dismal league only beating Kerry, however they managed to reach the league quarter final by just having that win which shoes the system needs to be changed.
Westmeath failed to gain promotion to Division 1b having finished behind Carlow, Antrim and Kildare. However, they only had 1 win in the round robin but still made the quarter final, with the win coming over Meath. Westmeath will look to players such as Eoin Price, Derek McNicholas and Alan Devine, while Offaly will look to big games from Shane Dooley, Oisin Kelly and Emmet Nolan. The bookies have Offaly favourites for this at 4/11, with the Lake County 11/4 to book a semi-final with Galway/Dublin. I hope for the sake of Offaly hurling that they win this, but it wouldn’t be a shock if Westmeath won.
Verdict: Offaly by 2
