Current Monaghan footballer Conor McManus admits that winning the Ulster championship in 2013 &2015 was a great achievement. Those victorys were a welcome ray of light after the dissapointment in previous finals. McManus captained his county in the 2015 win over Donegal having beaten them in the 2013 decider.
Speaking to Aishling O’Reilly on Wednesday nights live PlayOn Instagram series the Clontibret native said: “It was a great achievement, we had played in a couple of Ulster finals prior to that and didn’t perform and probably didn’t do ourselves justice at the time, and Malachy came in at 2013.
We went into that game with the level and preperation was unbelieveable, we were playing the All-Ireland champions that day and your going into it convinced that you were going to win the game now being right or wrong that was the level of preperation and dedication that went into it”.
After the defeat to Donegal in the 2014 final Monagahan were back in 15 to put wright from wrong from the previous year. McManus performance in the final was was one of his best performances to date.
McManus enjoyed what many believe to have been his finest hour in the 2015 Ulster Final when, despite being marked tightly by the Donegal defence, he managed to score six points in an 0-11 to 0-10 win for the Farney Men
